Description

Pterocarya × rehderiana (Wingnut tree) is a fast-growing, vigorous, large tree with lush green, finely-divided leaves with individual leaflets in spring and summer, that fade to a butter-yellow in autumn, before falling. On well established trees droopin catkins appear in summer shaped like a wing nut, hence the name. Wingnuts are particularly fond of damp soils so ideal for boggy areas. They do grow quite large mind; up to 25m in height by 20m wide and have vigorous roots, so not for the smaller garden.
