Awarded an RHS Award of Garden Merit, this Maple variety is fantastic for winter interest with its tactile, cinnamon-brown coloured peeling bark that curls in sections, revealing the next layer of bark. Flowers are small and fairly insignificant, but are followed by winged-seeds often referred to as 'helicopters' due to the way they spin when they fall from the tree. Leaves are trilobed and a bold green colour throughout spring and summer, turning to pink and bright-red before falling in the autumn. It will reach up to 5m in height by 4m wide. It will grow in both sun or partial shade and tolerate most well drained soils, avoiding very exposed positions.
