Common, native, quick-growing, medium-sized deciduous tree with green leaves changing to yellow in Autumn before falling. Male and female catkins are produced in Spring before the leaves. It can be planted in damp situations, though for wetter areas Downy birch (Betula pubescens) would be a better choice. Suitable for most soils.
