The fastigate (meaning upright) Hornbeam are very similar to the common, native Hornbeam with the same leaf shape and colouring and bud and stem formation, but they differ with their habit and form. Thye have a very narrow habit, where the stems grow from the main trunk and grow vertically rather than horizontally, formring a narrow, upright shape. These trees are ideal for planting in smaller spaces, or to create screening, or an avenue of trees. Leaves are lush-green throughout spring and summer, turning golden-yellow in autumn before falling.
