The common Walnut is an ornamental tree that will grow up to 12m in height by 8m in width. Leaves are feather-like in shape with leaflets growing in opposites and a leaf at the very tip. In autumn, leaves turn warm shades of yellow and bronze before falling. It is fully hardy nad suitable for most conditions. After three to five years Walnuts will appear. For best results plant in a moist, but well-drained soil, in full sun to partial shade. Prune annually to maximise fruiting potential and contain growth. Walnuts can be harvested when green for pickling, or left until autumn to be dried and stored.
