Magnolia 'Royal Star' has an RHS Award of Garden Merit for its stunning, large, fragrant, white, star-shaped flowers in spring, on bare stems. It is a compact shrub/tree ideal as a standalone specimen plant or as part of a mixed border. Magnolias are low maintenance, requiring minimal pruning. They are hardy plants but do require sheltrer from the north-east to protect the young flower buds in spring, when the sun burns the frosted buds.
