The flattish russet brown fruits are 1 - 2 inches diameter and resemble rose hip.  They are something of a curiosity, as they must be stored for a few weeks to soften, before they develop their true flavour, which is almost truffle like.  The flavour is only for the dedicated.  Nottingham is the most popular variety.
