Description

Wisteria are large, vigorous growing, deciduous, woody climbers with masses of lush, green foliage and unusual hanging pod-like flowers in summer. 'Domino' is a Japanese variety with striking lilac, violet and yellow flowers! It has an RHS Award of Garden Merit and their flowers form at the same time as their leaves.

Make sure your plant has some mesh, trellis or wire to grab hold of, against the wall or fence.

Wisteria do require specific pruning techniques, in order to get the best of your plant:
- Prune twice a year in July/August and then again in January/February.
In July/August prune back the young, whippy stems that have grown that spring, cut back to 5 or 6 leaves (bearing in mind that one leaf is what looks like a group of several leaves).
Then in January/february Cut back stems to above the 2nd or 3rd bud, to ensure that when the plant begins growing again, it doesn't produce more stems and leaves to hide the beautiful flowers!
