The common Hazel is a native, large shrub/small tree with large, dark-green, rounded, serrated leaves throughout spring and summer, that turn yellow before falling in autumn. Yellow catkins appear in spring and these are the male part of flower. At the same time tiny red flowers appear, which are the female parts of the flower. More than one plant is needed to be present for the flowers to be pollinated and therefore fruit to form.
