Alnus glutinosa (Common Alder) is a fast growing native tree and can reach a height of up to 60ft. It can be used on sites with poor drainage or grown by water. Catkins are produced early Spring which leads to cone shaped fruits. The young leaves are yellow around Spring and change to a darker green in the Summer. Suitable for any soil. Seeds are eaten by birds in winter.
